Bishop William A. Wack, CSC will celebrate the Mass of Priesthood Ordination for Deacon Patrick “Pat” LaPointe on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at 10:00am at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Pensacola. Solemn Vespers is Friday, May 26, 2023 at 5:00pm.
Deacon LaPointe was born in Caledonia, Wisconsin. He studied at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (1976-77) and at the University of Nebraska (1981-82). From 1977-1980, Deacon LaPointe served in the Air Force where he specialized in computer programming.
In 1979, Deacon LaPointe married Catherine Schill and they had four children; Caitlin, Zachary, Clare, and Rhonda. After 41 years of marriage, Catherine died on March 29, 2020.
Deacon LaPointe entered diaconate formation in 2010 in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and was ordained a permanent deacon on September 14, 2014. He served as deacon and pastoral coordinator for six regional cluster parishes in Milwaukee. After the death of his wife, Deacon LaPointe felt the Holy Spirit leading him towards the priesthood expressing that “I view my becoming a priest as the best way I can spend the rest of my life serving God.” Deacon LaPointe connected with the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee who agreed to sponsor his formation at Sacred Heart Seminary and School of theology in Hales Corners, Wisconsin. In early May, he completed a special two-year theology program at Sacred Heart.
Following his ordination, Deacon LaPointe will serve as Administrator of St. Joseph Parish in Pensacola.
