PENSACOLA , FL (August 21, 2017) – It was a joyous occasion as hundreds of people, dozens of bishops, and multitudes of priests gathered at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart for Solemn Vespers on the Eve of the Episcopal Ordination of Bishop-elect William A. Wack CSC. In his homily, Celebrant Bishop Daniel R. Jenky CSC of Peoria, reminisced about the early years of his own life as a priest who taught the younger bishop-elect at Notre Dame.
“Perhaps my one claim of academic fame was that one of my students was William Wack,” said Bishop Jenky. ”You’re getting a good man in the person of this bishop. I’ve known him since he was a child. He came from a good Catholic family, a good Catholic college, and the Congregation of the Holy Cross. He has personality, energy, and a sense of humor. He loves people, service and the Church. But best of all, he loves the Lord.”
Following the homily, Bishop-elect Wack stood at the altar where he read and signed the Profession of Faith in which he promised to uphold the tenets of the Catholic faith in obedience to the Holy See and fulfill the duties of a bishop. The congregation stood for the blessing of the Pontifical Insignia by the Celebrant, Bishop Jenky, who sprinkled the bishop’s regalia with holy water. The items that were blessed included the bishop-elect’s Mitre, Crozier, Pectoral Cross, and Ring, all of which will be worn during the Ordination and Installation ceremony August 22 at the Bay Center.
