The Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee is pleased to announce that Douglas Martin, a former Episcopal minister, will be ordained as a transitional deacon on May 11, 2019 at the Co-Cathedral of St. Thomas More in Tallahassee. Mr. Martin, who was received in the Catholic Church in 2001, will be ordained to the priesthood later this year.
The Pastoral Provision, established in 1980 by Pope St. John Paul II, is a process for Episcopal clergymen who are married in the United States to request and petition for ordination to the diaconate and priesthood in the Catholic Church while being dispensed from the obligation of celibacy. After going through the process of formation, studies and assessment, Mr. Martin was granted a dispensation by Pope Francis on Dec. 6, 2018.
Mr. Martin currently serves as the director of faith formation and director of youth ministry at St. Columba Catholic Church in Dothan, Ala. He and his wife, Amanda, have been married for 21 years, and they have three children: Micah, Jillian, and Mariam.
