Secretariat for Education and Formation promotes the education of people of all ages, from kindergarten faith formation to RCIA and beyond. The offices found within this secretariat are:
We recall the statement made by the Second Vatican Council, "Holy Mother Church must be concerned with the whole of man's life, even the secular part of it insofar as it has a bearing on his heavenly calling. Therefore, [the Church] has a role in the progess and development of education." (Gravissimum Educationis, Preface)
Education remains critically important in the formation of the human person by teaching how to live well now so as to be able to live with God for eternity.
Catholic education addresses the development of the whole person through spiritual and academic formation based on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The mission of Catholic education provides a particular environment for the New Evangelization by presenting the Holy Gospel anew within the school and parish communities.
"The Secretariat for Education and Formation exists to make intentional disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. Each Office is concerned with offering support to the important work of life-long learning and human formation. Our parishes and Catholic schools are communities of prayer where the Gospel is proclaimed and lived as we answer God's call to be The Church Fully Alive."
