Vicar General Reverend Doug Halsema Designated Monsignor

We are pleased to announce that Rev. Douglas Halsema, pastor of St. Mary's in Ft. Walton Beach, has been designated with the title of 'Monsignor' in accord with his role as Vicar General in our diocese. Here are Bishop Wack's remarks on this wonderful honor:

"Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, 

On June 1, 2023, I officially appointed Reverend Douglas Halsema as Vicar General for the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee. At the time of his appointment I was not aware of a papal instruction that grants the Vicar General of a Diocese the title of 'Monsignor' as long as he holds this important office. 

Fr. Halsema has certainly demonstrated his effectiveness as my Vicar General and I am pleased to belatedly grant him the title of 'Monsignor' as of October 29, 2024. This title also recognizes as part of the history of this Diocese that those who have served as Vicar General have been 'Monsignors' and recipients of the pontifical honor 'Chaplain to His Holiness'."
