Bishop William A. Wack, CSC has appointed Kanobia A. Russell-Blackmon as the new Diocesan Director of Communications effective May 1. Kanobia will oversee the publication of The Catholic Compass and serve as the diocesan spokesperson.
Kanobia comes to the diocese as an award-winning and Emmy nominated broadcast journalist. She began her professional career in the Mobile-Pensacola designated market area as an on-air personality, producer, and reporter in radio and television. In addition, her professional background includes work in education, leadership in broadcast news, and development, marketing, and communications in support of the Catholic Church’s social ministry work to alleviate poverty for underserved families and communities.
Kanobia’s communication objective is to contribute to the faith development of people, to ensure impactful and strategic communications plans by integrating, implementing, and promoting the work of the Church through various media. Kanobia looks forward to telling the Catholic story, thereby compelling people to develop even greater opportunities for communion, participation, and mission through encounter, accompaniment, evangelization, and transformation through service and charity.
Kanobia finds immense joy through the use of her talent and expertise to inform and to provide the necessary resources to support the apostolic mission of the Church. A native of Mobile and graduate of McGill-Toolen Catholic High School, Kanobia is happy to be back home along the Gulf Coast. We are blessed to have Kanobia join our team in the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee.
