We are beyond pleased to receive the good news about Msgr. David Toups appointment as the new Bishop of Beaumont, TX. Congratulations, Msgr. Toups! Please join us in praying for him during this time of transition.
What follows is a message from Msgr. Toups:
"Greetings in the name of the Risen Lord Jesus! It was announced today at noon in Rome (6:00 am EDT), that Pope Francis has appointed me to be the sixth Bishop of the Diocese of Beaumont in Texas.
You might imagine the flood of emotions that I have been feeling since receiving the call from Archbishop Christophe Pierre, the Apostolic Nuncio, last Monday evening. My first thought went to SVDP, and my love for the seminarians, faculty and staff of whom I have had the pleasure to serve for eleven years (2007-2010, 2012-2020), and to all of you who so faithfully pray for and support our mission of priestly formation. Thank you for continuing to care for St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in the coming years. I could not be more proud of our institution as a place of genuine learning and formation in holiness.
Please also pray for me and the faithful of the Diocese of Beaumont during this time of transition. If you are able to tune in, there will be a news conference today (Tuesday, June 9) at 11:00 am (EDT) in Beaumont and the link can be found on the diocesan website: https://www.dioceseofbmt.org/. My episcopal ordination will be on August 21st in Beaumont – and then I become a Texan!
My prayers are with you and the great mission of SVDP. May the Lord continue to be with each of us in these difficult days of the coronavirus and the unfolding events throughout our nation surrounding the sin of racism, injustice and civil unrest. I close with the words of the Risen Savior that a bishop likewise speaks at the beginning of Mass: Peace be with you!
Sincerely yours in Christ, Bishop-Elect David Toups
