Perry, FL — Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida is providing disaster relief services to those impacted by Hurricane Idalia in Perry. The storm made landfall August 30 leaving behind damaged homes and thousands of people without power. Catholic Charities partnered with World Kitchen and the Florida State University Catholic Student Union to distribute hot meals from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Together, they were able to provide over 1,200 hot meals to families.
OneGen and Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida donated essential supplies including water, meals ready to eat (MREs), fresh produce, ice, bread, and other food items. The Knights of Columbus, volunteers, and Catholic Charities assisted in distributing those items to 850 families.
Immaculate Conception parish in Perry was hit hard by Hurricane Idalia. The church sustained structural and roof damage from hurricane force winds. Downed trees also caused damage to the parish hall, the rectory, and the office. Assessments will be done to determine the best way to proceed to repair the damage.
