Although the cross was intended to be an instrument of torture and death, in Christ it became a means of life and salvation. It is through Christ’s death on the cross that death has been conquered and the gates of eternal life have been opened. In this living faith we lay to rest our beloved dead in consecrated ground to await the day when Christ will raise our mortal bodies to be with him forever.
Burial in a Catholic cemetery is an affirmation of our faith, an expression of the dignity and reverence we owe to our departed loved ones and an act of respect and honor for the beauty and sacredness of the human body. The cemeteries of our diocese are maintained and operated with great care and devotion. Quiet surroundings pay tribute to those who have been laid to rest and give a sense of peace and comfort to families and friends left behind. Those who are buried there are daily remembered in our Masses and prayers.
